Andrew's Story

I am going to have Andrew tell his story in his own words.  I will post it as soon as he has it started. I am also going to list some memories that I have as his mother.

  1. Learning he did not know how to read.
  2. Trying everything, including putting colored paper on his books.
  3. Having the blowpops I took to school for the class exchanged for dum dums (not in IA).
  4. Paying Andrew to show his teacher he could not read.  His telling her that he moved his head like the other kids because he did not want to look stupid.
  5. An Alabama teacher telling the other kids that Andrew was suing her when his parents filed a request for a hearing.
  6. Learning about Orton-Gillingham.
  7. Andrew's stress.
  8. Having to fight for Andrew's reading program.
  9. Having to fight for Andrew's next level reading program.
  10. Having to fight for Andrew's reading program to be longer than 15 minutes.
  11. Andrew learning to read on grade level!!!
  12. Being very thankful to the Cedar Rapids School District.  It was a learning process for us all.
